Emotional Freedom Technique is a simple to use self-help technique which can be easily learnt and frequently produces quick and impressive results.
It can however also be used with different levels of sophistication and 'Matrix Reimprinting' represents one such recent development in the application of EFT and in the understanding of its possibilities.
It may be that when used in more complex ways to deal with past memories and early traumas EFT is best undertaken with a trained therapist.
However Matrix Reimprinting Using EFT is geared towards those wanting to use EFT for self-help purposes as well as towards practicing therapists.
Written by Karl Dawson, the creator of the technique, and Sasha Allenby, who has contributed to its development, Matrix Reimprinting Using EFT provides an outline of the theory underlying the technique and the various protocols for carriing it out.
In simple terms, the basic difference between Matrix Reimprininting and traditional EFT is that as well as being specifically focused on past experience, it more particularly involves tapping on your past or younger self in your imagination.
The Cinema Technique
Traditional EFT already makes use of the cinema technique, familiar from NLP, for dealing with troublesome memories. However, while going through the memory the client up to now has simply tapped on themselves to lower the intensity of the experience in the usual way.
In Matrix Reimprinting you step into the picture from the past and imagine that you are tapping on your former self - what they nicely refer to as the ECHO. You do this while you are at the same time tapping on yourself in the present - or are tapped on by your helper or therapist.
The reimprinting aspect of the technqiue will also be familiar to those with a knowledge of NLP. The idea of combining the reframing of past experience involved in that technique, with the more kinaesthetic tapping process from EFT is a fruiful one.
A New Dimension
Some may find the theory which accompanies Matrix Reimprinting -the 'matrix' element of the coupling -a little exotic. However, the theory is not essential to an appreciation of the technique, which can also be understood using other, more familiar models.
Personally, I find the more interactive and caring relationship established between the present and past selves in Matrix Reimprinting very satisfying. The protocols also provide a powerful method for replacing a negative memory with a new, positive image.
Matrix Reimprinting certainly brings a new dimension both to the NLP reimprinting technique and to EFT itself. Many will find it intriguing and well worth exploring.
